Our work "2000th open heart" is special because it comes from a notable collection. Indeed, Professor Jean Paul Binet, surgeon at the Marie Lannelongue Hospital, member of the Academy of Surgery, the Academy of Medicine and correspondent of the Academy of Sciences, was also a great lover of art. Close to the Beaux-Arts of Paris and the Maeght family, he met many artists to whom he commissioned works, notably to commemorate the key figures of his open heart operations. Among these artists we can mention Joan Miró or Antoni Tapiès. Other works on the theme of the heart were offered to the professor, and the proceeds from the sale of the reproductions were donated to the hospital. Our two works are among them (lots 53 and 72).
