Shodana in ochre-brown lacquered wood. The rectangular top with raised ends surmounts a set of three shelves, two doors and three small drawers at the front, all on a four-legged base. The tops and shelves are decorated with various characters, nyo, sennin etc... The small doors feature a group of karako on a terrace playing various musical instruments, lacquered in red, gold and brown on a black lacquered landscape background. The drawer fronts of the doors and uprights are gold lacquered with geometric decoration. Silvered and chased copper locks, hinges and mounts. Japan, Meiji period.
