It is likely that Godecharle, who enjoyed the protection of the famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Pigalle during his stay in Paris in the 1770s, produced a copy with variants (the dead bird and the simplified terrace) of his marble group L'Enfant à la Cage executed in 1747 (Musée du Louvre , n°inv.RF 654). He subsequently made numerous copies of French sculptures during his stays in Paris, notably for the park décor at Château de Wespelaar.
He also owned a plaster replica of La Frileuse dite aussi L'Hiver after Houdon's model of 1783 (plaster copy, signed Godecharle f it / 1803, dim.146,5 x 48,5 x 53 Musées royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique n°Inv. 2722, and original by Houdon in the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, marble, dim.145 × 57 × 64 cm, N°inv. 828.5.1).
