SCHMIED (François-Louis) - MARDRUS (Joseph-Charles).
Histoire charmmante de l'adolescente sucre d'amour.
Paris : F. L. Schmied, 1927. - In-4, 305 x 237: (8 ff. first 4 blanks), 145 pp. (9 ff. last 4 blanks), illustrated cover. Original edition of this oriental tale, printed in an edition of 170 copies on Arches wove paper.

The work was entirely designed and illustrated by François-Louis Schmied (1873-1941). It includes 649 wood-engraved compositions, including hundreds of delicate "bouts de lignes", 132 carefully crafted headbands, a color frontispiece and 13 full-page color figures. Each copy is signed by the artist at the justification and on the frontispiece.

Another edition, also illustrated by Schmied, was published simultaneously. Although different in its illustrations, it is also considered a "first edition" in the justification. Only 25 copies were printed, sharing the same "achevé d'imprimer", dated September 30, 1927.

One of 20 copies reserved for contributors, numbered XVIII, with the complete suite of 6 original illustrations by François-Louis Schmied for Flaubert's Salammbô (1923 edition). These plates, in 203 x 158 mm format, are in two states on japon paper (black and color), with the exception of a single state illustration in black.

A very well preserved copy. A few rare transfers of engravings.
