Women's informal dress in cream silk embroidered with flowers and butterflies, China, circa 1900 The jacket is made of silk damask with a chrysanthemum and butterfly motif, and embroidered in polychrome thread with large butterflies with outstretched wings, peonies, camellias, chrysanthemums, magnolias, plum blossoms and branches of peaches and other plants. The collar and edges are edged with dark blue silk trimmings embroidered with shou signs, auspicious symbols and peonies. Sleeves are wide and straight. The jacket closes on the right side with three buttons that are not original. Pink silk lining. H. 109 cm (missing facing at bottom of jacket, cut bottom of dress, stains)
