Large copper-alloy incense burner with brown patina, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)
Depicts a rooster perched on a taiko on a four-legged base. The drumheads are decorated in high relief with hoho in the clouds.
The rooster serves as a grip on the lid of the incense burner. Two holes at the top of the drum suggest that there may have been an element there, which has now disappeared.
