Woodcut matrix by Paul de Sémant (1855-1915) depicting an infantryman with weapon in hand hiding in a forest. This woodcut was made for a novel published at the end of the 19th century, perhaps L'invasion noire by Émile-Cyprien Driant (1855-1916), also known as Captain Danrit, published in 1894-1895.
